RENUTRIENTS
Brett Smuts is the founder of ReNutrients, turning recycled alkaline batteries into high-performance micronutrient fertilisers. His solution supports crop health while building a local, circular fertiliser supply chain that reduces waste and strengthens agricultural resilience.
The Problem
Farmers need reliable, cost-effective sources of essential micronutrients like zinc and manganese to keep crops healthy and productive. Yet these nutrients are traditionally sourced – driving cost and impacting the environment. Meanwhile, valuable metals locked inside common waste items like alkaline batteries often end up in landfill. Closing this loop offers farmers an alternative to support both productivity and sustainability.
The Solution
ReNutrients provides farmers with a sustainable source of essential micronutrients, transforming waste into a high-performance foliar fertiliser. The solution delivers zinc and manganese in a bioavailable form, helping close the loop on waste while supporting crop health and yield.
Target Market
ReNutrients supports broadacre and horticultural producers looking for effective, low-impact fertilisers that fit seamlessly into existing operations. Our products also appeal to regenerative growers seeking biologically active alternatives that build long-term soil health. We work with ag retailers, advisors, and sustainability-minded partners to close the loop between waste and agriculture.
Stage of Development
ReNutrients’ fertiliser solutions are already being used by growers across Australia, with strong early adoption from both conventional and regenerative farms. Our products are commercially available and continuing to expand through trusted distribution networks and on-farm partnerships.
